Building a Lead Gen Automation Prototype

Mitchell Tessier

One of the most popular templates on n8n, with more than 150k installs, is a Google Maps lead-gen workflow. I went through the template libraries on n8n, Gumloop, Make, and Zapier to see what people actually automate, and found dozens of versions of the same thing. Nearly all of them end the same way: a list of rows in Google Sheets.

What's covered

  • What the popular lead-gen templates across n8n, Gumloop, Make, and Zapier actually do, and where they stop
  • Building the same job as a Task with the AI Task Builder, using the native Google Maps, Apollo.io, HubSpot, and Slack integrations
  • Taking it past the spreadsheet, so the output lands in the CRM and in front of a person instead of in a tab nobody opens

A spreadsheet is where a lead-gen workflow stops being automated. Someone still has to open it, judge the rows, and move the good ones somewhere useful. That handoff is the part worth building.

For more on why we build these as Tasks rather than canvases, see The n8n Alternative.
